Are Cannabis and CBD the same?

Cannabis and CBD are not the same things, but they are related. Cannabis is a plant that belongs to the Cannabaceae family, and it has two primary species: Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. It contains over 100 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids, including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive compound that causes the “high” associated with cannabis use.

CBD (cannabidiol) is another compound found in cannabis, and it is known for its potential benefits, such as reducing anxiety, promoting relaxation, and alleviating pain. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive, which means it does not cause a “high.” CBD is typically extracted from the hemp plant, a variety of cannabis that is low in THC and high in CBD.

So, while CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant, it is not the same thing as cannabis itself, which contains many other cannabinoids, including THC.
